Bloodsworth - An Innocent Man

Long, drawn out, boring.

The case is tragic and illustrates many problems with the system. But this isn’t really a documentary. This is a talking head with some animation. It’s not investigative. Just this one person, who of course was wronged, telling the story of what happened to him. Again, it’s a tragic story and I’m glad he’s telling it. But if you’re looking for a real crime documentary that investigates a wrongful conviction, this is not going to do it for you. If you want something that is more like sitting in an audience and hearing one person tell his story, that’s what this is. I hope he gets attention for this and more invitations to speak. But I’m rating this as a documentary film, and as a documentary film, I would not put this anywhere near the good documentaries about wrongful convictions.

Kirk Bloodsworth's story is mind-boggling, heart wrenching, pull your hair out frustrating, but ultimately inspiring in that the man is still, as he states, “standing up” today. This is a well drawn film that really gets inside the perspective of what it’s like to be an innocent person convicted, not to mention sentenced to death, for a crime they didn’t commit.

Like a Johnny Cash song, Gregory Baynes Film is a slow moving train that by the end will hit you like a bullet.

Heartbreaking and mind-boggling. This documentary gives voice to a man whose story shows that our criminal justice system is broken, and that the death penalty does not belong in America. Incredible story, well worth watching!

This was a compelling and fascinating film— from the very first moments. Kirk Bloodworth is also such an interesting speaker and so open about his experiences. If you liked Making A Murderer, The Staircase, or Serial— you will really dig this.

From the first moment, you are pulled into this story and it doesn’t let go until you’ve seen the justice system through the eyes of a man condemned to death for a horrific crime he didn’t perpetrate. Kirk’s story is compelling and vital, and is a testament to perseverance.
