Description

A bumbling Englishman heads to L.A. to find the woman of his dreams in Season 1 of this HBO comedy series from Stephen Merchant (Extras, The Ricky Gervais Show). Stuart (Merchant in his first starring series role) is a web designer who is half as charming as he thinks he is and twice as desperate. Working out of his home office where he lives with his attractive roommate Jessica (Christine Woods), Stuart is obsessed with infiltrating the glamorous world of the L.A. social scene and its most desirable locales, but his cheapness and pettiness often lands him on the outside. Joining him in his quest for beautiful women are pals Wade (Nate Torrence), who is in the midst of a divorce, and Kives (Kevin Weisman), a charismatic paraplegic who fares far better with the ladies than either of his friends.

Hello Ladies looked really witty and clever in the previews HBO aired. This is NOT the case though. I found the show to be really dumb and really profane when they consistently used racist and homophobic slurs. HBO has decided to cancel the series but the network is wrapping it up with a final episode eventually. I wouldn't waste my time watching this though. Watch Veep or Getting On (not on iTunes probably until December or November 2014) instead.

This takes a couple of episodes to find its feet but then it takes off in the most hilariously laugh-out-loud, horrifyingly-cringeworthy way. Yet its genius lies in its heart, and at times poignancy. You find yourself rooting for Stuart. Can't wait for season 2!

Great show. The wedding episode amazing. HBO should have made a second season. Another excellent show canceled...

One of my favorite shows on HBO, Stuart (main character) is hilarious as well as his side kicks as they navigate the LA single/club scene. Was so sad to find out HBO did not renew for season 2. Guess like I will have to continue re-watching this season
  • Humorous Though Frustrating

This show has a bit of charm to it. However, it is one of those shows where everything goes wrong and the characters consistently make dumb decisions. Personally, I find that more frustrating than entertaining.
