I'm only here for Tom Hiddleston! This type of show has been done many times before but I think KB makes it worth a watch. Strong story lines kept it apart from other shows. Love the creative writing and wonderful acting.
  • Slow pace, average plotting, some good acting

I see I’m in the minority on this one, but for what it’s worth: I think the pacing is incredibly slow. There are lots of shots of Wallander not saying anything, and slow pans over scenery or minor propping. I suppose this is meant to create a mood, but that mood seems to almost always be “depressed”. Most of the plot twists are more like soft bends, and visible well in advance. Branagh is good as the gloomy detective, though his associates are unable to rise above the very weak lines they’ve been given. They all seem completely helpless without Wallander, which is a worry because he comes across as competent at best. Save your money on this series, and spend it on “Luther” instead.

There are several structural weaknesses in the writing. The plot is unorganized and the character development, although there is a significant amount of it, is still rather weak. For example, Wallander's team is never properly introduced. I've watched the entire first season and still don't have the slightest clue of who the team is except for Wallander and Magnus. Despite the structural weaknesses, the acting and the cinematography are exceptional. The show is entertaining. If your favorite crime shows are late to update, then pop on over and watch Wallander while you wait.
  • Seriously intense drama - not for the light hearted TV watcher

Intensity is not a bad thing, I actually thoroughly enjoy the show and it reminds me of Criminal Minds. Gritty, real and straight to the point - with some great emotional bits that hit home. The acting is first rate, but we can expect nothing less from K. Branagh as he has shown throughout his career. I am interested in checking out the books they were based on, so you know the mark of a good "book to TV/Movie translation" when you want to read its origins.

I turned my head to this show because of the new Sherlock Holmes series. People had told me this one was more realistic. I believed so, but this is so depressed. (Maybe it is how this world looks like: depressed!) The first episode is full of teenage crime. Nicolas Hoult is starring in it, as a teen boy who was abused by his father (He starred Tony in Skins Season one and two). Great mini-series anyway. Super worthy of buying. Btw although actors are all British, but the protagonist is Swedish, and they all meant to be Swedish. God do they all have to speak Swedish to prove their identities?

I'm nearly finished with series 1 of Wallander and it is BRILLIANT! Fantastic acting, good-looking Brits, unexpected plot-twists, good directing, beautiful cinematography, great scores... This show is pert-near perfect. Admittedly, I am shocked that I just paid 5 dollars for an episode, yet I have no regrets. This show is awesome!

This is probably my favorite recent television show. The photography is beautiful, Branagh is genius, writing is good and not over wraught, the entire tone is original and movie-like. When do we get Season 2 is my big question...I don't see info on that anywhere and I know it has already aired on television. Bring it on, ITunes.
