Description

What would happen if every human being on Earth disappeared? This isn't the story of how we might vanish — it's the story of what happens to the world we leave behind. Building off the success of HISTORY's two-hour special "Life After People," this series continues the exploration of a world wiped clean of humanity, in even more vivid detail. Just like the special, each episode will use cinematic CGI to reveal — in scientific detail — the fate of every aspect of the man-made world. What happens to the millions of animals that supply our food? The chemicals stored in industrial complexes? Which animals take over subways? Do satellites fall to earth? When does Mt. Rushmore wither away? Every episode will unfold in the hours, days, months and years after people disappear and will combine three to four different kinds of stories, from animal outbreaks to structural collapses, building to a unique visual finale. Welcome to Earth, population zero.

The content of this show is very interesting. The post production embellishments make the show utterly unwatchable. Every few seconds there is some type of visual interruption - a sputter - and it's always associated with a series of insufferably high pitched sounds. This type of editing is just awful. It ruins the show. However, because these effects seem designed to target the central nervous system, a person under twenty-five is unlikely to be bothered.

I have both seaons and wondering if there will be a third. I believe each show is well documented, even if (IMHO) there are conflicts between shows. It leaves me thinking and wondering.
  • Good in theory, AWFUL in practice

Normally, I like things like this, especially the Alan Weisman book "The World Without Us", which I'm sure this is based. However, the delivery (of the 1st episode anyway) was absolutely awful. We stopped watching half way thru (I've since skimmed the rest of the episode: it didn't get better). buy the book, and save yourself the pain. If I could give it zero stars, I would. One is the minimum.

I like this program very much. It gives a hint into a world in which humans will never be able to see or record. Try thinking about how your town or state will be in 500 years? We can't but this shows gives us an idea of what it will be like. In reality though, we will never know.

I was surprised: I went into this show fully expecting another one of History's "OMG the worlds gonna end were all gonna die" things, but I have to admit that its OK. The subject matter is...interesting, I guess, and it's not something we usually think about (being so concerned with ourselves that we are). It does a good job of staying well away from that sheer cliff that is the conspiracy-theory how-the-world-will-end (although it does walk close on occasion), and it is very interesting how little of humanity will remain after we're gone and how no matter what we do to the world it will still live on, even if humanity itself gets shafted...
  • Fun and Rediculous.

This series is interesting, but is rediculous in some of its assertions. Filled with "coulds" and "maybes", it paints a worst case scenario, But environmentalists take heart, not to spoil it too much, but in the end, nature wins as always.
