Many of us know Westworld from 1973 and from HBO. Fewer of us know about Futureworld and hardly anyone knows about this short series. I finished all 5 of the episodes however and let me give you some insight. This short canceled series for historical viewing is excellent. However, for entertainment value is much lower. The editing and story telling is bad. Sometimes its hard to follow the episodes plot as it can be very choppy. For historical purposes it is very interesting however. Each episode at his heart involves a scientist named Quaid at Delos wanting to gain control over the world or parts of the world. (Beyond the theme park westworld) The best episode is episode 4 in my view, editing and story telling wise. That being said, Quaid uses robots because he hates human beings and a hero who works for Delos stops him in each episode, John Moore. That is the interesting part, because I believe the ultimate influence for Ford from the HBO series is based on Quaid (Quaid in the last episode here tries to turn a human being into a semi robot, which is akin to Ford wanting the hosts in the HBO to behave as human like as possible including their consciousness) Of course, the HBO series is much more advanced. In my mind there is no doubt based on Quaids similarities to Ford that the HBO show creators not only Westworld, but also watched Beyond Westworld (as well as Futureworld which copied DNA from guests to make perfect human robot copies for their park, which the HBO series does also) for getting ideas for the hit show we know today. In that way, Beyond Westworld is very important viewing for historical purposes.
