NBA player turned substitute teacher Mark Cooper (Mark Curry) lives with Vanessa Russell (Holly Robinson), his cousin, Geneva Lee (Sandra Quarterman), and her daughter, Nicole Lee (Raven-Symoné), as he navigates the challenges of being a substitute teacher in his first post-school profession. In season three, Mark and longtime friend Vanessa explore their romantic feelings, and Vanessa finally manages to get a job answering phones at a doctor's office.
