Description

A lone rider arrives in a small high mountain village; nobody knows where he’s from and nobody wants him there. Greider (Sam Riley - CONTROL, MALEFICENT) introduces himself as a photographer from America, and the town’s patriarch, Old Brenner, provides him with shelter for the harsh winter ahead. The village cut off by snowfall and barely a ray of sunlight reaching the valley, a tragic accident leads to the death of one of Brenner’s beloved sons. When another son is mysteriously killed, it’s clear this is not a coincidence: the time has come for Brenner’s family to pay, and Greider plans to settle a score long forgotten by everyone but him. The Dark Valley is a masterful western with "a brooding atmosphere of suspicion and menace..." (Indiewire)

Absolutely love this movie! Great story and phenomenal acting. This is def my all time foreign film. Don’t think it’s for everyone but if you like westerns with a foreign twist, this is your movie.
  • What is this horrible dubbing?!

I bought this expecting to be able to at least watch it with the original German audio. It's not even included, just this atrocious dubbed version. I even bought this in Austria, a German speaking country. This is unwatchable.

The dubbing ruins this itunes movie; shame on them for selling this butchered version of such a great movie

The movie itself is quite good, but find another way to see it - it’s been terribly dubbed into English and the performances are so bad they almost ruin the film.
  • A Terrific German Western

The movie is slow in the first 30 minutes, then builds energy and suspense for a while, and finishes with the best Revenge/Action sequences since Clint Eastwood's High Plains Drifter and Clint's Unforgiven. Sam Riley is good as the anti-hero with a mysterious mission to accomplish. Thanks to his blazing shotgun, he has a decent chance of carrying out his plans. Movie asks viewer to consider a lot of things, including: Is violence ever the appropriate method of righting serious wrongs? How come such a beautifully directed and photographed flick did not gain more acclaim? I'm sure other viewers will have better questions than mine. Anyway, you might wish to rent or buy this movie.

This movie deserves accolades. A twisted, brutal, yet noble story. Well-acted. Well-plotted. A little short on action, but makes up for it with originality, and a haunting deeper thought. I love Westerns. This is different, but nearly as good as The Salvation.
