I liked the film but independent research shows pretty clearly bulger was an informant. For a good part of the film i thought it was produced bu the bulger defense team. Read Kevin Cullen's critique of the film for more details.

This documentary told the same old story, but in a long, boring and drawn out sort of way. This was basically a prime-time CNN special with nothing more than a lot of talking heads and aerial shots of the Boston courthouse.

I really liked this… and would watch it multiple times… why not sell it? why is it only for rent?

Whitey: The United States of America VS Whitey Bulger The federal government- in all it's facets, is prescribed policy, procedural rules and laws which it must comply with in how it conducts it's operations while fulfilling it's purpose to the American people. When allegations arise that it has wondered from that prescript, it has an opportunity to redress and responsibility to amend its wrongs. This film's proposition of a heavy government conspiracy- be it from perpetrators or victim advocates, may seem like tale spin, but not one that's hard to sell. The DOJ & FBI's unwillingness to answer heavy questions accompanied with the fact that it didn't actively pursue cases with a strong potential for conviction definitely proves there is more than what meets the eye here. I personally beg the question of how ANY FBI agent can, over the course of 20 some years, have a significant number of friends, family members, and colleagues either investigated, imprisoned, executed or missing and continue to hold the same title and in the same district. One thing that can't be denied here, whether it's allegations being true or not, if the gov't admitted some knowledge that it knew Bulger was the usual suspect, there'd be a lot of law suits, hefty settlements, other persons being sentenced to long prison terms,

I enjoyed watching this documentary. It does a good job of laying out the prosecution of Bulger, but tends to get too caught up in a larger conspiracy theory, which is based upon a lot of speculation and people's beliefs. It's the lack of factual support for the larger conspiracy where this documentary lost me.
