Description

In the futuristic world of Olympia, a city on the brink of destruction, a team of scientists discovered a way to instantly reconfigure human DNA so that all disease would come to an end. However, this blessing becomes a curse and the city is overtaken by gangsters and DNA Hackers. Michelle (Bai Ling), a seductive assassin whose mission is to take out these so-called DNA Hackers is determined to use the new technology for good instead of evil. When her brother Jackie (Parry Shen) steals a genetic device from their neighbor Christian (Alec Newman), a vigilante scientist, he gets dragged into the immoral cyber-underworld. Banded together, Michelle must fight not just for her own skin and blood, but also for the survival of mankind.

Bai Ling makes the movie. If you dig her, it's time well spent exploring this strange world. I would have liked more depth, but I was not disappointed in the plot.

It is difficult to give a creative endeavor a poor rating because of how much goes into creating somthing like a movie. However, I would want someone to help me avoid spending my money on this movie. I was not able to complete the movie, finding it difficult to keep my attention on the screen. I am a Science Fiction fan and can typically find something in the story, setting or acting to keep me engaged. Unfortunately, this was not the case with The Gene Generation. I regret to say that one star is generous.

I rented and watched this while flying across the country, it was only 99 cents and I figured it couldn't be that awful! I was wrong, it was terrible! Bai ling is always fun to look at, but the story (if u can call it that) the actors (if u can call them that) the effects (that's being generous) were the worst. Ugh. I actually paid attention to the flight to distract myself from this movie. You have been warned.

The CG varied from 'rather good' to 'poor'. The sets seemed to be well done. And there is little else to recommend, other than: Save your money. It was odd, but this is the first time I ever watched a movie and only saw actors, never the characters they were trying to portray. I don't know if it was the script, the direction, the makeup, the actors themselves, or a combination of all of the components together. All I ever saw was actors on a set, and not characters trying to live out their lives.
  • Stylish sci-fi with a confused execution

This movie has some solid sci-fi style: the setting has an intriguing end-of-the world look and Bai Ling is apocalyptic sexy. But the acting is poor, the premise is confused and certain elements of the story are just too weird to be believable (like her accent versus her brother's as just one peeve). Worth seeing? Only if you absolutely love sci-fi and can tolerate the type of mediocre execution that occasionally makes you sigh.
  • Little to recommend here

I'm pretty forgiving of low-budget sf/f films, and I usually set pretty low expectations, but this dark fantasy film sadly failed to clear the bar. Pros: 1) Bai Ling and her costumes are pretty hot. 2) The sets are cheap, but admirably done. Cons: 1) The plot is a tattered mess. 2) The characterization is sophomoric, to be charitable. 3) There is no story. 4) The dialogue is skincrawlingly bad. 5) The creature effects are never better than what you see in the trailer. 6) The background mattes for the green screens are jarring. I'm not sure the pros here outweigh the cons.

I'm a big fan of dark movies and this one was forgettable immediately. It has all the right components but fails miserably in putting them together. I feel it was one of those hollow movies with shallow characters that you would not care if they lived or died. But hey.......If you are looking to pass time with some mindless entertainment and have $3.99 to waste, get it.

This movie is truly amazing, It is much deeper than most cruddy mainstream movies that are out today with no purpose. This movie requires you to think, feel, and realize. The actors did good, especially the ones involved in the romantic role in the story. Truly touched on real life and real feelings. Go Bai Ling!
