For most, the summer between high school and college is a dream…but for Otis, it’s a nightmare. While everyone knows where they are going off to college, Otis must perform an elaborate waitlist charade even though he is already enrolled in community college. He attended an exclusive public school, but only because his family lied about where he lives. Now that everyone is announcing their college decisions, he feels further isolated from his classmates. Not having the financial resources to afford his dream school (even though he doesn’t even know what he wants to study), and not having the grades for a scholarship, he feels lost. That doesn’t stop him from going to the desert with his two best friends, Jaden and Cora, to celebrate their impending enrollment. What does stop them is when they accidentally hit a woman, Maya, who happens to be running across the road. Further complicating things, she is carrying a briefcase with what looks like $1 million dollars. Each with their own concealed motives, they decide to cover up the hit-and-run. For his friends, money is an intangible object, something used to float one through life, but for Otis, money is inexorably linked to life. Letting a million dollars slip away is not something he is planning on happening. Otis, Jaden, and Cora abscond to their desert Airbnb where they have one night to decide what to do with Maya’s body and the money. When Maya unexpectedly wakes up, she reveals that they have entered into a much deadlier game than they had originally thought. Her hitwoman partner, Jules, is after them and seeks revenge. The cracks, and lies used to cover up these cracks, in their friendship come to an explosive head…with fatal consequences.
