Description

What makes a woman swipe right for Mr. Wrong and left for Mr. Right? This simultaneously entertaining and enlightening comedy is a fresh, witty, and all-too-relatable look at the real-life science behind our (often regrettable) romantic impulses. Writer-director Whitney Cummings (2 Broke Girls) stars as no-nonsense neuroscientist Julia, whose research into the biochemistry of the female brain is illustrated by three couples: newlyweds Zoe (Cecily Strong) and Greg (Blake Griffin), whose career troubles seep into their relationship; Lisa (Sofia Vergara) and Steven (Deon Cole), who are looking to spice up their stuck-in-a-rut marriage; and Lexi (Lucy Punch) who can't help trying to change her boyfriend Adam (James Marsden). Meanwhile, the straight-laced Julia's own synapses start to fire when a handsome new subject (Toby Kebbell) joins her study…

  • Whitney went from funny to over-complicated.

The whole movie is a neurotic woman saying "women are not neurotic, and here's why...." I'm a Whitney fan, but she has truly become far too complicated for her own good. Too much time, money, and therapy, she has severely over complicated her life (and now her comedy) with quotes from some online research and her therapy and whatever book she's reading at the moment. Even her interviews and podcasts have become exhausting and boring, and when she recalls an ex saying she's become "a bit much" she STILL can't see it, recalling the incident as if the guy was crazy. I've been a HUGE FAN but you're becoming EXHAUSTING, stop with the science behind every micro detail and live and simplify. I paid seven bucks to rent a movie by and with one of my favorites, and in two sittings still could not get through the first two thirds and didn't even care to find out more than that.

Great dialogue and creativity: Funny interactions between characters and humor. Well done to adapt the ideas in the book into a movie. Every character was well played and seeminly well casted. Whitney Cummings does an amazing job. I don't understand what's wrong with the Rotten Tomatos critics. This is one time the critics are wrong. It makes me feel that the critics are afraid of something different and new, in terms of ideas. Ideas in movies like this will help us progress as humans, but I think people get afraid of learning something different than they were taught from their parents and schools. Anyway, great actors, great creativity, and great ideas. Refreshing movie.

FINALLY a female comedy that isn't a total cookie-cutter RomCom. Couples were hilarious, and I thoroughly enjoyed myself while watching.
  • Wonderful!
