Description

A five-man unit of cops on night patrol get more than they bargain for when they arrive at a creepy backwater town in the middle of nowhere after a call comes over the radio for backup. Entering a derelict building, the seasoned tough guys and their rookie junior, who's still haunted by a traumatic childhood dream, do the one thing you should never do in this kind of movie: they split up. They soon realize they've stumbled into a monstrous charnel house and descend into an ever-more nightmarish netherworld where grotesque, mind-wrenching horrors await them at every turn. This is one baskin (that’s 'police raid' to you non-Turkish speakers) that isn't going to end well. But wait! Things aren't what they seem in this truly disturbing, outrageously gory, and increasingly surreal film whose unpredictable narrative slippages pull the carpet from under your feet and keep you guessing right up to the final moment. A wildly original whatsit that reconfirms Turkey as the breakout national cinema of the moment.

  • Torture porn at it’s finest

Well… I mean, if you like Hellraiser mixed with Saw… This is basically Bone Tomahawk set in modern day Turkey. But more disgusting. Too much showing and not enough telling. Apparently, these filmmakers forgot that the most disturbing thing is the human mind. Really horror relies on the mind to actually imagine things. Movies like this… they forget that basic principle of horror. So, yes, the stuff they show here is horrifying. But it’s certainly not entertaining. Still shocks me that people find a level of entertainment value in this. On a side note, watch anything directed or produced by Eli Roth. If you liked this crap, you’ll like his crap. Comes from the same sewer.

Loved it and have watched it 2 times and the 2nd time is even better as can pay attention to detail more. Very cool slower buildup of characters which the actors do an excellent job with especially good since all of these actors have never acted before! Amazing and cudos to the director. Very interesting mythos, character development and the gore of hell is terrific and unique. You can seen influences but is still a very unique and well told story. Can not wait for Can's next movie.

Not only does this film have actually terrifying visuals, incredible score and plot twists galore but it keeps the mind guessing and wondering where things will go next. I’m a voracious horror fan and this one had me squirming and stuck at the end of my seat in suspense and awe. Also, not for the faint of stomach...

The point of this comment is to say yell obscenities at the first reviewer... It's bad enough you believe your opinion is a fact but why the f#ck did you have to ruin the plot like that? Believe it or not you may not be the cinema savant you think you are, I directly disagree with you meaning that your review is false as well as being arrogantly ignorant.... Art is a matter of perspective, I only wish this would pop up in Dr whatever the f#ck ever's email.. As for the movie: Very surreal and interesting pace. A little overly ambitious if anything but very well made.

This film was beautifully shot and the sets, characters and lighting was of the best I've seen in awhile. It's more of a look at hell rather than a full story though. Often I was a touch confused and lost in finding a point. The beginning was a bit slow and drawn out but once it got moving it gained momentum. All in all its a visual masterpiece but only moderately entertaining for me. It's seemed more of a bad acid trip that thankfully comes to an end with the credits. Definitely worth the watch for the visuals alone, but don't expect the story to blow you away.

What a great discovery BASKIN is! By far and away best horror flick I’ve seen this year. Great visuals, really gruesome and very smart. Comparisons to HELLRAISER, HAXAN, and other classic horror films spot on. Nightmarish vision of hell comparable to something out of a Bosch painting. Definitely worth a look
