‘Spiral’ has brought some significant changes to the old ‘Saw’ formula, and according to director Darren Bousman, the result could provide the beginning of a new cinematic universe. In a recent interview with Bloody Disgusting, Bousman discussed his hopes for the Saw projects and how it might evolve in the future.
“There is so much potential and there is so much I want to tell. Just because ‘Spiral’ exists doesn’t mean there will never be Saw 9. This is a diversion… this is another path. We’ll still get to see Tobin Bell. What I think will happen, if possible, is that you’ll see ‘Spiral 2’, and then ‘Saw 9’ following up with ‘Spiral 3’ and ‘Saw 10’. Then you can even watch a TV series. So I think you’re going to see the Saw series as kind of a Marvel world, where there are different storylines going on. And I think that’s what it’s going to be. It will exist in the same universe and there will be many different storylines taking place.”
