Description

The most magical adventure of all time. Imagine a world where dreams come true… and magic is real. In a time long past, when magic was fading from the world of men, the malevolent sorceress Mab summoned forth a mighty wizard to keep the power of the Old Ways alive. The wizard's name… was Merlin. But when his heart is touched by the love of the beautiful Nimue, Merlin turns away from Mab's dark enchantments. Allying himself with the young warrior who will rise to become the legendary King Arthur, Merlin pledges his mystic skills to Arthur's visionary cause: bringing peace and justice to the realm haunted by monsters and ravaged by war—and setting the stage for the ultimate dash of Good versus Evil. With spellbinding performances from the stellar international cast and spectacular special effects from Jim Henson's Creature Shop, Merlin conjures up and epic Golden Age of wondrous magic, supernatural passions and unforgettable adventure!

If you are looking for a Disney treatment etc then move along. If you want something that is steeped in the tones of celtic mythology, this is your Merlin. It’s really a fantastic take on the tale that touches on the history of England and the subjugation of pagan beliefs into Christianity without banging it over your head that that’s what’s going on. And Sam Neill, well come on it’s Sam Neill has he ever failed us

With a stellar cast, a solid story and impressive special effects, Merlin is the best fantasy film that you’ve never seen. Of course it takes several liberties with Arthurian legends, but it would given that this isn’t Arthur’s story. It truly is Merlin’s, and it’s a harrowing, sad, and ultimately triumphant story of lost love, lust, fading traditions, and of course, magic. Also, if you’re like me and had the VHS as a kid, you’ll be happy to know that, unlike said VHS, this is the uncut version with an extra 40 minutes of story and character development. I paid less than $4 for this on iTunes… that’s an amazing deal. Take advantage of this deal and enjoy a fantastic film.
