  • Sad Season

A wonderful show that was as funny as any had to cope with Phil Hartman's tragic and shocking death prior to this season. The show simply wasn't the same after that and even if the cast and writers could sustain the greatness of the previous four seasons, you could not watch without thinking of Phil. It is a testament to the wonderful cast's abilities that they even produced what they did here, but Jon Lovitz just did not have the same range and timing needed to keep up (though his character was not especially well developed or funny). I would recommend the other four seasons with incredible enthusiasm, but this season just couldn't pull the show out of the loss and away from Phil's incredible shadow.
