Navy SEAL: Murderer? Framed? Target of Opportunity?

Yet still totally on the edge of my seat. I just kept thinking it would have an ending of justice.

This movie is very unsettling. I just happened to rent Loving along with this movie. The Virginia justice system is looking very corrupt. This is not a thing of the past, but an ongoing problem. How can they justify (pun intended) the verdict in this case? Are they afraid they will have to look back at all of the cases tried by Humphrey? Is it easier to sacrifice this young man (not so young any more)? The movie is compelling, the story is told clearly and the corruption is not necessarily one sided. I have an overwhelming sadness for the fact that Dusty's worst crime was picking the wrong partner for SEAL training. In some ways they taught him to never abandon his partner, and yet they saddled him with a psycopath. He was 20 years old, impressionable, and brainwashed. It appears Dusty was finding his way loose of Brown, but he was caught in his partner's jealousy for a life he could not lead. I am saddened that the verdict has not been overturned.

An excellent documentary. This case has many parallels with the Amanda Knox case that took place in Italy from 2007 to 2011. There, too, prosecutors, for lack of a convincing case, fantasized a salacious sex story, defying the evidence, witnesses and common sense—and the jury fell for it. In Italy, as here, the press was more interested in a sensational story than in the truth. And just like in the navy seal case, those Italian prosecutors, confronting the confession of the actual killer, simply changed their story to an even more ludicrous version. The main difference between the Knox case and the Dustin Turner case is that it took Italy ‘only' four years to come to its senses and let Amanda Knox go, whereas the innocent former navy seal has now spent about four times as long in an American prison. And for what?—to not disturb the reputations and the comfortable lives of the prosecutors and judges whose career was built on this case. Come on, Virginia! Do you really want to look as corrupt as Italy or Russia? Punishing an innocent man is not going to bring back Jennifer Evans. The only abduction that took place here was the abduction of Lady Justice. Make this right, free Dustin Turner!

If you like military / true crime documentaries, this one is for you. An engrossing documentary, worth a view. I live in Virginia, and had not heard of this case before. This movie is worthy of the .99 rental.

I hadn't heard of Dusty Turner's case and the Navy SEAL connection caught my eye. I was deeply troubled after watching this masterpiece. I definitely recommend watching!

I don't write reviews on films that I watch, but was compelled to write on this one. My son graduated from the Naval Academy and had friends who were Seals. This story was so disturbing to me as a military mother. I can't imagine the pain the family has had to endure, let alone the nightmare this young man will endure for his lifetime. These proscecuters are the lowest creatures on earth. What they did to this young man is disgusting. I hope there is karma for them. My prayers are with this young man. I hope that he will find something to do with his life while in prison that will give him some peace of mind. This is a must watch movie!

This is the best documentary I've seen since Capturing the Friedmans. Masterfully constructed; the filmmakers use reason and evidence to break through all the emotions a case like this can produce.

Despite the awful, senseless crime and the enraging machinations of the media and, more shamefully, Virginia’s “justice” system, this is a film that I couldn’t stop watching. I rented this because I remember this case - it was huge news - but I didn’t really know about it all until now. A lovely girl with an unlimited future is dead - that’s the biggest tragedy in this story - but there’s a man in prison (basically for life) for a crime he did not commit. This film doesn’t forget the former, but has convinced me of the latter. Yet another maddening example of our broken justice system.

This film raises serious questions about flaws in our criminal justice system, but does so fairly, with facts, and without hitting you over the head with it. You learn how the system works and the inherent conflicts of interest that occur when contrary evidence arises to "settled" cases. You also learn about Navy Seal culture and all this is done in a format that is easy to watch. This film deserves and warrants wide distribution.
