Description

From John Carpenter, the master of horror behind 1998's hit John Carpenter's Vampires and classics like The Thing and Halloween, comes a sci-fi thriller full of explosive action and bone-chilling suspense. Natasha Henstridge (Species) is Melanie Ballard, a headstrong police lieutenant on Mars in the year 2025. Humans have been colonizing and mining on the red planet for some time, but when Ballard and her squad are sent to a remote region to apprehend the dangerous criminal James "Desolation" Williams, played by Ice Cube (Three Kings), they discover that he's the least of their worries. The mining operations have unleashed a deadly army of Martian spirits who take over the bodies of humans and won't stop until they destroy all invaders of their planet. With a stellar cast including Pam Grier (Jackie Brown), Jason Statham (Snatch) and Clea Duvall (The Faculty), as well as explosive special effects, John Carpenter's Ghost of Mars is an intergalactic terror fest like you've never seen.

Ghost of Mars is a film that balances three genres: sci-fi, action and mystery. The film opens with the lead character discussing the events of the story. The flashback scenes can often lead to additional flashbacks and this technique can be seen as redundant for some viewers. However, it is a unique approach and it is interesting to see each character have their prospectives play out in the film. As the story begins to unfold, the action increases. Overall, I found this film to be quite fun. John Carpenter himself has stated in previous interviews that Ghosts of Mars is not meant to be taken seriously. If you are looking for a film that will entertain you then found it.

Ghosts Of Mars is a terrific action thriller from horror master John Carpenter, it is one of only 2 films he has made in the new millennium and the only film by carpenter that was critically acclaimed by the late Roger Ebert at the time in over 2 decades since making Christine. A stylish fantasy directed in a non-linear fashion narrated through memories and eye witness accounts about a futuristic police force and their encounter with Ghosts of an ancient barbaric martian civilization on a terraformed planet Mars that has been inhabited by people for mining resources. The dialogue has a very reverbed effect applied to the actors voices, with transitional edits rather than clean cuts applied to the footage, the lighting is very hazy and vibrant even tho the story takes place at night, with all these elements Carpenter achieves a nightmarish dream like quality to its photography and sound which suits the fact that the film is a story told through memories, the cast is great and believably pulls off the battle action sequences that Carpenter executes very well. The third act leaves much to be desired but is still very entertaining. John Carpenter makes this film work and directs it with style and old school bravado and is one of his best films.

It was a good movie for me but I have low expectations lol, the only thing I wished is that they should've come out with a sequel, that would have truly been good.

This is a great movie that I haven't seen in a while. Absolutely love Ice Cube and totally have a crush on Natahsa Henstridge. I'm a huge fan of sci fi thrillers and this is definately one of my favorites. I just wish that itunes would allow us to rent the movie instead of buying it completely. Sometimes I hate buying movies because I only watch it one time and just toss it aside until I find something else to watch. itunes you should really consider allowing us to rent this movie.

I wasn't sure what to expect, but ended up liking this movie. Once you realize that you aren't supposed to take it seriously, it gets pretty funny. The violence pays homage to low grade horror flicks, but does so consciously. It's sort of a cross between a 70's B horror flick, Starship Troopers and a first person shooter video game. Fun campy movie with lots of explosions, repeated camera shots, zombie warriors etc. It's a silly movie that knows exactly silly it is and revels in it. It would probably be a better rental than a buy though.

Lets face it , John Carpenter likes to pinch a penny, that's why this movie is off the hook ! Limited area, small but tight cast, crazy action and those martians...Straight Gangsta ! F*** what you heard ! John Carpenter could make a movie in a Closet !

Don’t listen to the people who gave this movie a bad review it is actually a really good. It has good action and a completely different story line to it. I say it is a must have for sci-fi fans.

the idea was great, but it ended up becoming a 'Boyz in da hood' in space. Ice cube was never a good actor-he does not know how to play anything but a homey and that's what it looks like in the movie. he talks and acts exactly like that. they should have gotten a good actor to carry his part. He ruined it all for me.
